Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with Riverwards Produce Market in Philadelphia.

During this week’s episode of Small Business Saturday, we sat down with Vincent Finazzo, owner, and founder of Riverwards Produce Market, a corner store grocer located in Fishtown that aims to give the community resources for everyone to eat better and cleaner.

Riverwards Produce Market opened its storefront in April of 2017. However, the market was doing business long before opening their brick-and-mortar location. The business officially started out as a produce box truck, supplying fresh produce to local small business in the city such as Philly Style Bagels and Martha Bar. The produce truck saw great success, so Vincent decided to launch a pop-up market out of a friend’s garage in Fishtown, blocks away from where they are located today.

After running the pop-up market for a summer, Vincent’s friend introduced to an amazing, historic building at the corner of Norris and Sepviva in Fishtown. He decided to take and leap and the rest is history.

The building and the beloved neighborhood destination, Riverwards Produce Market, was born.

Riverwards Produce works with close to 200 vendors to source and stock high-quality produce and grocery products. The market proudly stocks and supports as many other local businesses as possible. As you walk through the market, you will see “local” callouts on the price tags. The labels let shoppers know which products are locally sourced. We were happy to see that some of our favorite local businesses, including Zsa’s Ice Cream, Crust Vegan Bakery, and Baba’s Brew, were sitting on the shelves.

Riverwards Produce aims to maintain a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to shopping. One way they do this is by banning plastic bags from the market. The market no longer stocks plastics bags. They offer paper bags to shoppers who didn’t bring a reusable shopping bag for free. They also offer biodegradable produce bags for 15 cents per bag. All of the money made from selling the reusable produce bags is donated to the Riverfront North Project, which is a Delaware River Cleanup Project.

This isn’t the only non-profit initiative Riverwards Produce has. For the entire year of 2019, Riverwards Produce is Partnered with the Vetri Community Partnership to run a veggie of the month program. Every month, the market features a different vegetable in the market. Riverwards donates 20% of the profits from that vegetable’s sales back to Vetri.

Verti Community Partnership has an amazing mobile cooking kitchen. They bring the kitchen directly to schools and communities to teach people healthy cooking. The Verti mobile kitchen visits Riverwards Produce from time to time, like this past Sunday, April 28th. Verti’s goal is to make cooking lessons accessible to everyone.

Riverwards Produce Market stocks a full-line of grocery products. They aim to be a neighborhood staple.

At Riverwards Produce, anyone can stop in for a last-minute meal ingredient or to do their weekly shopping. With competitive pricing and a wide range of local and organic products, Riverwards Produce is the best choice around!
